Who's who?

It can be rather confusing to try to figure out which scenes Amidala is the Queen in and which scenes Sabé is the Queen in. I know I was lost the first time I watched the movie. ;) So here's my little run through of each scene (well, costume).

Amidala In the opening scenes of the movie, we see the Queen wearing a red throne room gown. She discusses the possible invasion of Naboo. This is Amidala. Sabé never wears this gown.

Sabé After the Trade Federation invades Naboo, they immediately try to capture the Queen. Amidala will most likely be threatened, so she and Sabé trade places. By the time the Trade Federation arrives, Sabé is dressed in the black feathered gown, disguised as the Queen.

Sabé When they arrive on Tatooine, it is still Sabé in the black gown. Amidala leaves the ship disguised as the handmaiden Padmé. Sabé remains disguised as the Queen throughout the stay on Tatooine and until after they arrive on Coruscant.

Sabé It is Sabé who greets Senator Palpatine when they arrive on Coruscant and travel on the air taxi, not Amidala. She is still disguised as Padmé.

Amidala After their arrival on Coruscant, Amidala becomes the Queen again, and Sabé returns to being a handmaiden. It is Amidala who meets with Palpatine, wearing the kimono-like gown.

Amidala It is also Amidala who addresses the senate on Coruscant, wearing the red oriental robe. My guess is that the speech was too important for Amidala to rely on Sabé (though I'm sure she would have done a fine job), even if her life was in danger.

Amidala Amidala also makes the decision to return to Naboo after addressing the senate. It is her wearing the black dress in this scene.

Amidala It's still Amidala wearing the purple travelling gown when they leave Coruscant to return to Naboo. During the journey back, she and Sabé switch places once more.

Sabé Sabé wears the red and black battle dress when they arrive on Naboo, while Amidala is dressed as a handmaiden. Their secret is given away when Amidala admits her true identity to the Gungans, but Sabé remains clothed in the battle dress for the entire attack on the palace.

Amidala After the battle is over and Naboo has been saved, Amidala greets Palpatine, wearing the black dress that she also wore on Coruscant.

Amidala At Qui-Gon's funeral, Amidala wears the purple traveling gown again, while Sabé fades into the background as a handmaiden once again.

Amidala Amidala's life is out of danger for the time being, so she resumes the role of the Queen permanently. She presents Boss Nass with the Globe of Peace while wearing the feathered white celebration gown.
